The Art of Loving

Amrit and Rabindra KD Kaur Singh"A brilliant, highly visual experience from two of Britain's most genuinely talented younger artists."
(The Scotsman)
The art of Amrit and Rabindra Singh draws on the Indian miniature tradition, combining elements from
Western and Eastern aesthetics to create a unique genre within British Art practice which challenges
existing stereotypes in contemporary art and seeks to redefine generally accepted, narrow perceptions
of heritage and identity.

They work collaboratively and share in the exploration of cultural, social and political issues.
The paintings that have been created for Mandala Raga are reinterpretations of the traditional 'ragmala'
or Indian musical melodies which expressed feelings of love, longing and loss, and induced emotion.
"The series is about expressing different human moods and emotions as well as atmospheres. These are
depicted using various scenarios of human relationships, with particular reference to the theme of 'the lovers'.

The paintings are visual symbolic representations of the music. Phrases and emotions are depicted visually
through contemporary characters and settings, presented within the form of the traditional
Indian miniature. The Singh Twins communicate their themes within a highly decorative, often witty and symbolic style that has universal appeal and transcends cultural barriers."Some of the most optimistic images of our multicultural world"
