Evocations

Judith Tucker has always loved the landscape. She grew up by the sea in Anglesey and her early paintings saw her develop a growing awareness of the power of landscape to evoke unknown memories, creating atmospheric works that are both comforting and disturbing.

Stitched Stories

Stories - remembered, personal, mythical or imaginary - are the underlying inspiration for the textile artists in this exhibition. Their ideas are communicated in the medium of thread and fabric, materials that often have a powerful emotional symbolism in the lives of human beings.

Gillian Robinson and Stephen Livingstone both create beautiful, sculptural artworks inspired by the form of books. Their work feels ancient treasured, preserved - like relics from another time.

David Hancock

Manchester based painter will be showing a recent suite of paintings entitled 'Beautiful People'. His works provide rich opportunities for exploring the inner worlds of the characters that he depicts. The large scale canvases are almost photorealist in style.

'Wagging Tongues'

Adrienne Craddock, Marjan Wouda and Shellie Byatt. The artists have been inspired by proverbs from around the world which visualise proverbs from world cultures in prints, sculptures and paper collages.

Gerard Rickards Remembered

Gerald Rickards was the very first artist in residence when Drumcroon opened in 1980, helping to establish the principle that visiting the studio of a visual artist in order to gain insight into the making process should be a tangible part of the gallery experience.

'…emerging, evolving…' is an exhibition which aims to promote the diverse routes into further and higher education in the visual arts. Rachel Arkwright, Catherine Bryan and Ruth Isherwood are all currently in residence at Drumcroon.

Concrete and Glass is an exhibition that brings together the work of three artists Brendan Neiland, David Hepher and Rod Taylor who have been fascinated throughout their lives by the built urban environment.

This show brings together the work of three women Claire Curneen, Anne Gibbs, Jill Bryars who work with clay to explore life experiences. The exhibition will be a celebration of process; showing the development of ideas through sketchbooks, drawings and experiments with clay, through to final outcomes.

25 years principles and practice

The 25th Anniversary exhibition at Drumcroon, Wigan Education Art Centre, is an opportunity to reconnect with artists and friends made over the years whilst reflecting on the principles that continue to underpin the practice in the gallery and out in schools. The show will represent all areas of art, craft and design, celebrate a broad range of processes and address all the Universal Themes.

Recent paintings by Kevin Laycock

The work of Kevin Laycock explores the relationship between Abstract and Non-Figurative British Art and Classical Musical Composition. His paintings explore rhythmic patterns in music and the potential for drawing, mark making and standard repeat patterns in surface decoration and textiles.

The Graphic Works of Paula Rego

Paula Rego is an artist with an international reputation. Her drawings and paintings are famous for the quality of drawing and a rich unfolding narrative. The series of prints on display are evidence of this balance between content and form and present a great opportunity to explore a variety of stories and characters.

Debra Budenberg

Debra Budenberg uses the frame of found items of furniture as the underlying structure upon which she builds textile forms to explore the experience of family life. The works evoke the sense of human beings struggling to find space in the domestic world of a family: individuals vying for attention, struggling to be visible, to be heard.

The work on display is inspired by everyday, familiar, domestic experiences and reflects the quiet absorbing inner worlds of women. The artists evoke an overwhelming atmosphere of memory and history. Artists, Craftspeople and Designers are represented, showing a wide range of textiles, ceramics and jewellery.

Mandala Raga

A celebration of recent works by Caroline Jariwala, Nikki Parmenter and Amrit and Rabindra KD Kaur Singh. The work is a rich fusion of visual imagery drawn from Hindu, Sikh, and Christian traditions and ancient civilisations, from all over the world.

'Assembled References'
brings together artists Hannah Greenaway, Sue Platt, Jill Randall and Ian Walton who work with found materials or found objects. By juxtaposing objects or recycling materials they enable new stories and meanings to be discovered.

This exhibition has been designed to explore the idea of puppetry and animation as a central means of expression. A collection loaned by the Puppet Centre Trust in London included the Hogarth early T.V. puppets featuring Muffin the Mule, puppets from around the world and Barry Smith rod and glove puppets from 1970 - 1985.

Susan Wilson Drawings and Paintings

The very personal nature of Susan Wilson's art stems from its unique blend of observation and memory. Until recently, she has always worked directly from nature; and yet the figures, objects and landscapes in her paintings are charged with associations and emotions that resonate through time.

"The road to Catalonia stretches all the way from Manchester -this is where I made my first papers and began to make work that I felt belonged to me. My artistic journey, intellectually and emotionally, has been paralleled by a geographical shift in my influences, and now, responding to the Catalan region of Southern France, I have drawn closer to my artistic influences of French Masters such as Matisse and Derain who also associated strongly with Catalonia.
