Earth, land, sea
Paintings by Joseph Burke

The pieces are intended to be contemplative,
creating the feeling of nothingness that is found in nature,
and its vastness that influences the use of colour and shape.

This is the world as imagined and not as it is seen,
Though reference is often made to the weather and the
erosion of land and sea, by nature and by man.

The Texture of Nature
Prints by Ruth Thomas

Sometimes described as a ‘poor man’s etching’, a collagraph
is printed from a collage of various materials. A collage has the
quality of a cast and always retains a ghost of the original material
or object. A cast contains the absence of the object.

'I like to make art from modest materials. Found natural objects are
important - gulls feathers and the casts of sand worms collected
on the beach, pine needles, beech blossom and grass have all been
used in recent works.'

The prints echo our endeavors to manage nature. The grass, seed
and worm cast are ordered on the printing plate just as the land is
cultivated to meet our needs and desires.

Spirit Forms
Textile installation by Judith Railton

The landscape has been visited by spirits.
They have passed through and absorbed elements of each
artists work so that we can see them - a little.

'I have been using all my senses - touch, memory, sight, smell,
emotions - to imagine what kind of spirit would have visited
each of the artists work in the exhibition. Working with my
collection of textiles to create ‘garments’ which will float
and move in the gallery space.'

Landscape as Experience
Paintings by Clement McAleer

The paintings are worked in combinations of thin transparent
washes of oil or acrylic and heavy impasto.
They explore changes in nature, the pattern of the seasons,
the action of natural forces such as wind and water.

Horizons blend into skies in a celebration of paint and atmosphere, capturing
the moment, mood and sensation - creating
an intimacy with the landscape.
